‘Mahi’s Stationary Drawer’ was my first idea for the name. In a drawer was where I kept most of my stationary -pens, colors, markers- and so it only made sense.
Drawer Drawer Drawer…doesn’t roll off the tongue smoothly though does it? So I started brainstorming. Experimented with different phrases, like Mahi’s Stationary Collection; different Amharic words, like Mezgeb (which translates to document)…but I wasn’t quite satisfied until I came across ‘Mastawesha’.
Mastawesha translates to lots of meanings – something memorable, a souvenir, a notebook or memo, a reminder – all that fit perfectly into my vision. And to top it off – the letters in the word ‘Mastawesha’ create a great acronym: Mahi’s Stationary Shelf – Mastawesha- well sorta.
I was more than happy with it. Though my original stationary drawer idea wasn’t incorporated into the name, I figured out the first step towards my dream of owning a stationary one day. Cheers to me🥂
